A very simple way to get started is by changing out the mat colors on your existing artwork. Whether you are putting up a fresh coat of paint on the walls or just want to change the look of an existing room you can simply use the artwork you love by changing the matting. For example a bolder and richer matte color that would make more of a statement and create a focal point.  On the reverse do you have piece you love but is colors are no longer quite perfect for your décor?  Try using a more neutral matte to tone down and draw attention away from any colors are not a perfect for your décor.

Another simple way to change the look of any room would be to use textured matting to your existing art work or photography.  A textured matte adds depth and dimension creating a more visually interesting piece to look at.

If you didn’t want to switch up your matting you can always change the frames.  A great way to make a huge and dramatic change would be take your traditional frames and switch them to a more modern or clean gallery frame. These frames have clean lines that would give any room a very modern edge.

When redesigning your matting and framing you may want to also change where and how your artwork is positioned in a room.  By changing the walls and layout of how you display your work you can create a totally different feel and make the room new again.  Another simple idea would be to move a

piece from one room to the next.  This can also create the feeling that the space is different.

When arranging and moving your art around in your home you will want to take notice what areas get sunlight exposure.  Any art or photography that would be placed in direct sunlight would need to be put behind UV glass to protect it from fading and discoloration.  Also a non-glare glass may help to better view the work in your home.  Remember to protect those pieces by using the right glass and conservation mounting when redesigning them.

You can achieve a new look and feel with your existing art and photography without making an expensive investment. Give your home a new look this year!
